Modern academia applauds the fair speeches of ancient Greek philosophers, men like Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and the like; and the gullible minds of educated men are sincerely impressed. Meanwhile, the apostle Paul remains thoroughly unimpressed! While opposing the philosophical wisdom of the heathen in his time, Paul said, “the Greeks seek after wisdom” as he was contrasting their pursuit with the wisdom of God, saying, “the foolishness of God is wiser than men” These are two different paths.
"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. Modern Christianity has essentially Christianized American patriotism and democratic policy, even in the face of bloodshed, famine, and war ravaging other nations, so why wouldn’t it do the same thing with all that modern academia can produce? Preachers enter the arena and celebrate their ministries like teams in a spirit of competition and pride. Poor and needy souls in need of true Christianity are the casualties. Unholy Americans yearn for competition and violence both physically and spiritually, and they find acceptance and community in Modern Christianity.
These are perilous times. The inspiration of the Word of God has been attacked in recent times more than ever before. Questioning the inerrancy and infallibility of Scripture is an attack on its inspiration.
Peter was arguing for the equality of Scripture in the Old and New Testaments. The “vision” that Peter was referring to was already written down, canonized, and circulated as Scripture through the Gospels (Matt. 16:21-17:13, Mk. 8:27-9:13, Lk. 9:29-35).

They feel themselves to be the most humble people on the face of the earth by virtue of truly knowing God, but in reality what they believe to be the knowledge of God is the source of the problem.
